OBX part II

Over labor day weekend we went to the outer banks with A & S and their big frat dog Tyson.
He's an awesome dog, but man are they borderline obsessed with him! We brought Dewberry who again was a dream in the car, but didn't take too kindly to Tyson's ubiquitous sexual advances. I guess ol' Dewby is straight :P . He's usually super-submissive, but when mounted by a 100 lb beefy frat-dog, he showed a defensive side I've never seen in him before. Can't blame him I guess, no one wants to get @$$ -raped on their vacation!

It was fun and relaxing, but man what a heinous drive! We went to the largest dune on the east coast at Kitty Hawk and climbed it. It was beautiful, like being in a mini-desert, but also hot and dry and exhausting. It made me realize I never want to be stranded in the actual desert (duh!) The wind was blowing these cool patterns over the dunes, and everything had a hazy glow due to the sand on the surface of the dunes constantly being in motion from the wind.

Another fun thing we did was go-karts. There was a 'no bumping' sign, but we just ignored it and had an all-out war. The final result was a multi-car collision after which Jake and I got stuck, turned backwards, our kart trashed, and they had to stop all of the drivers to turn us back around. After the crash, our kart was shaking, sputtering and struggling through the last two laps! haha. oops

The beach house had a hot tub we chilled out in, and we watched season 2 of the Chapelle show- which, by the way, the funniest thing I have ever seen is Charlie Murphy (Eddie Murphy's brother) telling stories from the 80's about hanging out with Rick James and Prince. Dave Chapelle does these hysterical reenactments and also sprinkles in some actual commentary from Rick James. freakin HILARIOUS! seriously.

The highlight of the trip, though, wasn't when I got a $150 speeding ticket on the way back. Actually it was the last evening of the trip. I took the dog for a walk at about 11:00 pm and realized I hadn't seen the ocean at night yet. So I walked throught the cool darkness headed towards the surf, climbed the stairway over the dune, and on the other side... a glorious sight. Breathtakingly beautiful. The dark night sky, sprinkled with a thousand stars above; the moon a large bright glowing orange orb hanging between a few lonely clouds, the only source of light on the abandoned shore. The surf, barely visible below in the darkness, powerfully crashing with regularity upon the glistening sands, the sea and sand spreading out eternally into the darkness. The dune behind me casting out all signs of civilization, so that the only things existing in the entire world are me, my dog, the moon above, and the vast ocean. Incredible.
