Its a beautiful day
There's nothing like a friend with brain cancer to put life into perspective.
And there's nothing like when its one of the nicest guys you know, with a new family and a one-year old baby, experiencing the joys of family and fatherhood after 40 years of being alone to remind you that God, if there is a god, is not a personal god involving himself in the lives of individuals down here on this lonely little planet. And yet we pray anyway, because what else can we do? He changed his cellphone message to this U2 song:
Its a beautiful day
Dont let it get away
Its a beautiful day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know Im not a hopeless case

For real.. that is a MAJOR shock and bummer. does make you wonder why would this happen to such a nice guy (tho i wouldn't wish that on anyone!)... but i wouldn't go so far as to suggest that God is not with him (or anyone else chillin on lil ol earth). I dunno.... to me, just because bad things happen to someone doesn't negate the existence of God in our lives. Plus, It seems to me that the universe holds all kinds of surprises and secrets for which we don't even have the capacity to understand. We don't know how the story is written or what will happen... For whatever reason, this is the path that was put before him and shared with those who know and love him. Can't fight it cuz it is what it is, so maybe its better to focus on the message in the song - the message he's sharing with us - every day IS beautiful and to acknowledge that by livin, lovin, laughin... whatever it takes.
Love that message
