Read this article and tell me if this is terrifying or neccessary or both:
Report: Bush OK'd Spying in U.S.
Here's an excerpt, for low-attention-span slackers:
Caroline Fredrickson, director of the Washington legislative office of the American Civil Liberties Union, said the group's initial reaction to the NSA disclosure was "shock that the administration has gone so far in violating American civil liberties to the extent where it seems to be a violation of federal law."
Asked about the administration's contention that the eavesdropping has disrupted terrorist attacks, Fredrickson said the ACLU couldn't comment until it sees some evidence. "They've veiled these powers in secrecy so there's no way for Congress or any independent organizations to exercise any oversight."
Earlier this week, the Pentagon said it was reviewing its use of a classified database of information about suspicious people and activity inside the United States after a report by NBC News said the database listed activities of anti-war groups that were not a security threat to Pentagon property or personnel.
Pentagon spokesmen declined to discuss the matter on the record but issued a written statement Wednesday evening that implied — but did not explicitly acknowledge — that some information had been handled improperly.

You write this as if you were surprised. This man has no respect for liberty. And the Republican party is his biatch.
Haaaahaaaa haaaaaahaaaaaa ahaaahaaa ahaaaaa haaaa, people are so stupid. This has been going on since America was a country and able to do it. The point is normal people are rarely affected. You're still a vegetarian who's never been locked up right? It's almost 2006 man. The government doesn't hate Jews or Japs or Blacks, just, uh gays, but other than that you are safe and no one really cares to listen to your calls to V. If you are a no good terrorist, you deserve to be spied on (and you are), note, this includes those damn SUV hating environmentalist or lab thrashing ALF people.
If you ask me, only crimminals need to worry about this shit. As far as your bolded text in the article, aren't "anti-war groups" people to not be trusted? We should be watching those types.
You know who this is...
"The cost of freedom is always high — but Americans have always paid it. ... Our goal is ... not peace at the expense of freedom, but both peace and freedom, here in this hemisphere and, we hope, around the world. God willing, that goal will be achieved. Thank you, and good night.
Cuban Missile Crisis speech (22 October 1962)
Sorry, that quote was John F. Kennedy.
By the way here's another:
"The United States, as the world knows, will never start a war. We do not want a war."
What happened to us?
i hate this. what i don't get is when will it be enough to freakin impeach this fu#*(&*ker! What the heck!?!? He gets away with blowing up other countries, torturing peoople, detaining people without charging them of any crime for YEARS, spying on Americans, and God only knows what else! Its likely we only know just a small portion of all the evil. Why is this not ENOUGH?!?! WHY!?!?
Bush was within his legal right as President during a time of war to authorize such action and I can prove it.
This link (click here) will take you to Cornell Law School's website and is TITLE 50 > CHAPTER 36 > SUBCHAPTER I of the United States Code describing ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE. Read it and you will find that the President during a time of war, may authorize through the Attorney General electronic surveillance "without" a court order.
Presidents Carter and Reagan also authorized this same action and it was legal. However, when Bush does it, it's suddenly deemed "illegal". I find that a bit hypocritical. But what do I know, I'm just an asshole, right???
BTW...
Nice quote spider-girl, coming from a man who escalated military involvement Vietnam.
